Overview
The core of the Forward package is a FD300 high performance multimedia capture and playback PCI add-on card, designed for professional quality video and audio input/output.It can be connected to multiple analog and digital video and audio sources, process them in real-time and output the result to multiple destinations in a variety of formats. The flexible multimedia processing functionality of the device is implemented using the Philips TriMedia TM1300 DSP controller.Coupled with a large onboard memory buffer, the DSP can perform complex operations with the digital video and audio data supplied from multiple input sources including files residing on the host PC system.
The PCI 2.2 compliance makes FD300 hardware compatible with almost any of today's PC systems. The supplied drivers and application software work in the Windows 2000/XP environment.

- Professional web contents encoders
- High-end Internet streaming solutions
Package Contents Options
Depending on the specific application, a variety of hardware and software options can be provided with the Forward package.
Hardware options
The standard Passive Break Out Box (PBOB), see figure below, provides users with ability to connect multiple video and audio sources to the FD300 card using shared pins on the main 62-pin connector. The PBOB designed to fit easily into a standard 19 inch rack with occupying 2 rack units (RU) of height.
The Active Break-Out Box (ABOB) shown in the figure below provides many advanced options to connect multiple video sources and loop them through to other devices. In addition, it features 6 balanced XLR audio inputs and outputs as well as an earphone jack for audio monitoring purposes. The ABOB occupies 4 units in a standard 19 inch rack.

Lastly, in certain special applications the FD300 card may be used with a simplified OEM break-out cable.Unlike break-out boxes, the cable has the advantage of being lighter weight and having smaller footprint. However, it has a limited number of video and audio I/O connectors.
Software Options
The minimum Forward package includes the FD300 card with cable and break out box, basic hardware drivers for Windows 2000/XP, video and audio control panels and AVI capture software. This makes up the Basic package. Some of the software components of it are shown below.Depending on the desired application, additional software utility programs may be included.
.................................

The Editing option of the Forward product includes all software of the Basic package shown above as well as the A/V editing and title creation software as pictured below. These software applications give Forward users the ability to perform extremely fast video and audio editing as well as design and preview of artistic titles in various typefaces and languages supported by the Windows OS.
............
The full Broadcast software option expands the Editing system into a full broadcast studio control room with the addition of two powerful software titles -- OnAir scheduled video server and PostPlay time-shift software. The main control interfaces of these applications are shown below.

The last option of the Forward kit is geared towards advanced high-quality encoding and streaming of video and audio. To facilitate the use of Windows Media Encoder 9, the Forward may be purchased in Web Streaming configuration.Along with the advanced Windows Media 9 video and audio compression, this package features real time de-interlacing and adaptive 3D noise reduction filter hardware. On the software side, it contains convenient WM Scheduling (WMSS) software designed for professional live streaming or recording of web content automatically at preset dates and time.

In addition to the industry-standard video capture and audio drivers which are compatible with the vast majority of Windows applications, the Forward SDK contains the following components that will assist OEM developers in the creation of custom software applications:
- Color keying component (COM objects)
- Video Output Component (DirectShow render filter)
- Multi-Layer Video Titling/Animation/Clock Insertion (example C++ sources)
The above development components and source code examples are available upon purchase of the OEM version of the Forward package.
