Have you ever connected multiple IEEE-1394 devices onto a 1394 hub only to find that several of the connected 1394 devices will not communicate properly; seamlessly coexist; or they simply “drag down” overall network performance? SmartHub is a switchable 6-port hub with the intelligence required to manage those troublesome, interconnected 1394 devices. SmartHub addresses the complexities and issues related to both 1394 network performance and 1394 device compliance associated with the IEEE-1394 command protocol.

SmartHub is not the typical “dumb” 1394 hub that simply provides centralized connectivity between multiple 1394 devices. With SmartHub, non-conforming 1394 device issues are eliminated by providing an “intelligent” hub that is designed for simple and easy reconfiguration of a 1394 network through user-selectable switching.

Each 1394 device connected to SmartHub can be individually switched in or out of the network, eliminating the need to constantly reboot the 1394 network and reconnect the 1394 devices. By utilizing the RS-232 serial controls via the included SmartHub software, users can easily create network topology configurations for remote and automatic network reconfiguration!

SmartHub is compliant with the IEEE-1394 command protocol and its subset utilities, such as Isochronous Resource Management (IRM) and Cycle Master Designation (CMD) – utilities that only operate with fully compliant IEEE-1394 devices. SmartHub works with any digital video format, such as DV25, DV50, or MPEG.

SmartHub gives you the freedom to isolate IEEE-1394 devices that create conflicts with other 1394 devices. You may add devices to the hub without rebooting your 1394 network configuration since each 1394 device connected to the hub can be made available to your entire 1394 network or be kept isolated. SmartHub lends “common sense” to otherwise “dumb” 1394 networks.
